ServicesMulch and Beds
Mulch and Bed Care in Altamonte Springs
We clear tired or rain-scattered beds, cut clean edges and lay fresh mulch at a measured depth. Your plants hold moisture through the dry months, weeds struggle to return, and the beds stay where they belong. Every job starts with a free estimate at your home.

Beds that look finished and hold up to weather
Good mulch work is more than spreading a fresh layer on top of the old one. We pull weeds by the root, reset edges and spread mulch evenly at the depth your plants need. Too thin and weeds push through within weeks. Too deep, or piled against trunks, and roots stay wet and bark starts to rot.
Central Florida beds take a beating. Sandy soil drains fast, so bare beds dry out quickly in spring, and a single summer downpour can float lightweight mulch into the lawn or down the driveway. After a storm we start by assessing what moved, what is buried and which plants took damage, then put the bed back together properly instead of covering the problem.
If a bed needs more than fresh material, we can tie the work into landscape design, irrigation or a broader property cleanup.

What a bed refresh includes
- 01
Weeding to the root
We remove weeds, runners and volunteer seedlings by hand or with tools, roots included. Dollarweed and nutsedge get extra attention, since both return quickly if fragments stay in the soil.
- 02
Crisp edge cutting
We recut the line between bed and lawn so grass stops creeping in. A clean, slightly beveled edge also helps hold mulch in place during heavy rain.
- 03
Mulch matched to the bed
Pine straw, pine bark, shredded hardwood or other options, chosen for the look you want and how the bed sits. On slopes and near drains we lean toward materials that knit together and resist washing out.
- 04
Correct depth and spacing
We spread to an even, measured depth and keep mulch pulled back from trunks, stems and the base of your home's siding. That gap protects bark and keeps moisture away from the house.
- 05
Plant and drip line care
We work around existing plants, trim spent growth where it helps and keep drip lines and emitters uncovered and working.
- 06
Cleanup at the end
Walkways, the driveway and the lawn edge are blown clear before we leave, and old debris goes with us.
Questions about Mulch and Beds?
Call(407) 269-5989Signs your beds are due for attention
Bare soil showing through
Once mulch thins out, the soil dries faster and weed seeds get the light they need. Patchy coverage is usually the first sign.
Mulch in the lawn after rain
If you find mulch scattered across the grass or collected near drains after a heavy downpour, the bed has lost its depth and its edge.
Weeds outpacing your plants
When weeds are flowering or crowding shrubs, pulling them before they seed saves months of repeat work.
Grass creeping into beds
A lost edge lets turf runners move into the bed, where they tangle with plant roots and are hard to remove later.
Mulch piled against trunks
Mounds of mulch around tree bases trap moisture against bark and invite rot and pests. These need to be pulled back and reset.
How the work goes
- 1
Walkthrough and estimate
We visit your home, look at each bed, ask how you use the space and suggest a material. You get a free estimate before any work is scheduled.
- 2
Prep the beds
On the day, we start by removing weeds, fallen branches and any old mulch that has matted or broken down. Edges are recut and low spots are leveled.
- 3
Lay the mulch
Fresh material goes down evenly at the agreed depth, with care around plant stems, tree trunks and irrigation lines.
- 4
Final pass
We clear hard surfaces, check that drip lines and sprinkler heads are uncovered, and walk the beds with you if you are home.
What shapes the cost
Price depends mostly on how much ground we cover and how much prep each bed needs. A bed that just needs topping up costs far less than one that has to be dug out and rebuilt after storm damage. Your free estimate lists the work bed by bed so nothing comes as a surprise.
- Bed size and count
- Total square footage and the number of separate beds set how much material and labor the job takes.
- Material choice
- Pine straw, pine bark and hardwood mulch differ in cost, coverage and how long they last before needing a refresh.
- Condition underneath
- Heavy weeds, matted old mulch, buried debris or washed-out soil all add prep time before fresh material goes down.
- Access to the beds
- Beds behind fences, on slopes or far from the driveway take longer to supply by wheelbarrow than beds near the street.
Mulch and bed questions
How deep should mulch be?
For most beds we aim for a layer around two to three inches once settled. That is enough to block weed seeds and hold moisture without smothering roots. We keep it pulled back from trunks and stems.
Should old mulch be removed first?
Not always. If the old layer is thin and loose, we can top it up. If it has matted into a crust, piled too high or mixed with fallen leaves and twigs, we take it out so the new layer sits correctly and water can soak through.
Which mulch holds up best in heavy rain?
Pine straw and shredded mulches interlock and tend to stay put better than chunky nuggets, which can float. On slopes and near downspouts we usually recommend one of those and pair it with a firm edge.
My beds washed out after a storm. Can you rebuild them?
Yes. We clear debris, check plants for damage, restore soil where it was carried off and recut the edges before laying fresh mulch. If the damage reaches trees or larger areas of the yard, we can also handle tree trimming and removal or a full property cleanup.
Can I pay for a larger bed project over time?
You can. Larger projects can be financed for amounts as high as $100,000, with repayment spread over anywhere from two to twelve years. Paying the balance off early carries no penalty. Many people use this when bed work is one part of a bigger landscape plan.
