Sod Installation in Altamonte Springs

When a lawn is too thin, too weedy or too damaged to bring back, new sod gives you a finished yard in a day. We clear the old turf, correct the grade, lay grass suited to your light and soil, and leave you with a clear plan for watering.

When new sod is the sensible choice

Not every tired lawn needs replacing. If more than about half the grass is gone, or the same patches keep failing year after year, overseeding and fertilizer rarely catch up. Sod starts you over with mature, dense turf, and it is the fastest way to cover bare ground after a fallen tree, heavy equipment or standing water has killed off a section.

We look at why the old lawn failed before we sell you a new one. Shade from a growing oak, a sprinkler head that never reached a corner, or chinch bugs in St. Augustine will kill new sod just as quickly. If a repair through our lawn care or irrigation work makes more sense, we will tell you that during the free estimate.

What a sod installation includes

Removing the old turf

We cut out dead grass, weeds and roots with a sod cutter rather than laying over them. New sod laid on old thatch dries out and never knits into the soil below.

Grading and soil prep

Central Florida's sandy soil drains fast but settles unevenly. We fill low spots, slope the ground away from your home and loosen the top layer so roots have somewhere to go.

Choosing the right grass

Floratam St. Augustine handles full sun, other St. Augustine varieties and some Zoysias tolerate more shade, and Bahia suits larger, lower-maintenance areas. We match the grass to each part of your yard, not one variety for everything.

Fresh sod, laid tight

Pallets are scheduled to arrive the morning of the install so the grass is cut fresh. We stagger the seams like brickwork, trim neatly around beds and walkways, and roll the lawn for full soil contact.

Watering in and a care plan

Every section is soaked as it goes down. Before we leave, we walk you through the first weeks of watering and when the first mow should happen.

Signs your lawn may need new sod

  • Bare ground after storm damage

A downed limb, a removed tree or days of pooled water can leave large dead patches. Once the roots have rotted or been crushed, those areas rarely fill back in on their own.

  • Weeds outnumber the grass

When dollarweed, crabgrass or sedge have taken over most of the yard, treatment can leave you with little actual lawn left.

  • Patches that die every summer

Brown, spreading areas in hot months often point to chinch bugs or a dry irrigation zone. If treatment has not held, replacing the turf after fixing the cause is often the cleaner answer.

  • Water standing near your home

Puddles that linger after a storm mean the grade has settled. Regrading during a sod install corrects the slope before it causes bigger problems.

  • Thin grass under new shade

Trees mature and sun-loving grass slowly gives up. A shade-tolerant variety can be the fix.

How the work goes

  1. 1

    Free on-site walkthrough

We measure the area, check the soil, sun and drainage, and test how your sprinklers cover the yard. You get a written estimate with each part of the job listed.

  2. 2

    Prep day

Our crew removes the old turf, hauls it away and grades the soil. We mark sprinkler heads and protect beds and hardscape before machines come in.

  3. 3

    Install day

Fresh sod is laid, trimmed, rolled and watered the same day. Most average yards are finished in one or two days, and we sweep driveways and walks before we go.

  4. 4

    The first few weeks

New sod needs frequent, light watering until it roots, then deeper and less frequent watering. Local watering rules allow extra watering for newly installed grass for a limited time, and we explain how that applies to your yard.

What affects the cost of new sod

Sod is priced mostly by area, but the ground beneath it matters as much as the grass on top. We list each step on your estimate so you can see where the money goes. If you would rather spread a bigger project over time, we offer financing of up to $100,000, with terms anywhere from two to twelve years and no penalty for paying it off early.

Square footage
The size of the area sets how many pallets we order and how long the crew is on site.
Grass variety
Bahia is generally the most economical, Floratam sits in the middle, and Zoysia and premium shade varieties cost more per pallet.
Soil and grading work
Removing thick old turf, bringing in fill for low spots or correcting storm-related settling all add labor and material.
Access and debris
Narrow side gates, fenced backyards or leftover branches and stumps from storm damage take extra time to work around or clear first.
Irrigation adjustments
If heads are broken, buried or spraying the wrong way, fixing them before the sod goes down protects your investment.

Sod installation questions

Something not covered here? (407) 269-5989

What is the best time of year to lay sod here?

Late spring through summer is ideal, because warm soil and rain help roots establish quickly. Sod can go down in the cooler months too, but it roots more slowly and needs closer attention to watering. We will tell you honestly if waiting a few weeks would serve you better.

Can you lay sod right after a storm?

Usually yes, once standing water has drained and debris is cleared. We often pair sod with our property cleanup or stump grinding so fallen limbs and old stumps are handled first. Laying grass on saturated, compacted soil is a mistake, so we check the ground before scheduling.

How soon can we walk on or mow the new lawn?

Keep foot traffic light for the first two weeks or so. Once a gentle tug on a corner shows the sod has rooted, usually after two to three weeks in warm weather, it is ready for its first mow on a high setting.

What happens if something gets damaged during the install?

We are fully insured, which matters on a sod job where a sod cutter, a loader and pallet deliveries all come onto your property. We are also a business licensed, family-owned company, and we flag sprinkler heads, edging and bed borders before any machine rolls in. If something is disturbed, we point it out and put it right before we leave.

Do I need a working sprinkler system?

It helps a great deal, though hand watering can work for small areas. During the estimate we run each zone so you know whether coverage is even before new grass depends on it.
